At the tail end of week 12 I finally was able to capture some images of our little man, this time with him enjoying the water. I would not say he has been particularly fond of bath time, but recently he has been more fascinated by the water, and he seems rather relaxed. The only issue is getting out, he still cries every time…

He is quickly approaching the 3 month mark, the point many mothers tell me to look forward to. I do see changes in him, but the days are still long and oftentimes pretty rough.  This week in particular was difficult since I was sick and caring for baby on my own, trying not to pass on the bug I somehow caught.  It’s been 5 days since breaking my fever and Justice still has no sign of it.  So looks like all my efforts to keep him healthy and germ free paid off!

Two years ago a Judge signed papers officially making me a mother to a beautiful young lady named Marissa.  With the celebration of October 4th as our “gotcha forever” day, it’s always a time of reflection on the journey the two of us have been on together.  Parenting is a tough job, I recently became a member of the biological parent club, but for over 4 years I have parented children whom were not born to me. Ones whose back stories would break your heart, whom still struggle with the damage done so many years ago. Our journey together continues to evolve each and every day.

Since our littlest member of the family arrived this summer, something changed in Marissa.  She has been less resistant to my parenting, more accepting of us as HER family, and even a bit more loving. Was it Justice who prompted this change? I am not really sure.  But her attitude is so much more positive these days, she has been putting a great effort in her school work this year and has shown herself to be responsible and trustworthy at home. I am SO grateful for these changes!  I praise her daily and I can see our bond is growing stronger.  It feels like some of the fruits from the years of trials and hard work are finally coming to bear.

So for week 11, in honor of our “gotcha forever” anniversary, I felt it was a perfect moment to feature big sister Marissa with baby Justice. They were perfect models together, and I hope they treasure these images together as much as I do.

It’s been a long difficult week with little sleep or opportunity to sit behind the computer because of a demanding little baby, making this weeks blog post a bit late. But the big news of week 10 was mom and dad’s first year wedding anniversary! If you would have told me on our wedding day that I would have a beautiful baby boy by our first anniversary I would not have believed you for a second.  In fact, I would have told you that is impossible.  For years I had struggled with infertility and already had come to accept my fate of never having a baby of my own.  Clearly God had other plans for me.  Justice is a true gift and blessing in all our lives.

New things Justice is doing these days… He is grasping toys much easier and putting them in his mouth, he is having cooing conversations each day with us and he began fighting his sleep BIG time.  He did however, to my surprise, fall asleep on his own for the first time on his play mat.  I thought it was so adorable that I had to capture it.

Photographing this family for the second time was such a joy. Seeing little Cami go from a 6 month old with big a personality, to a beautifully sweet 3 year old and big sister to baby Asher.  But this time it was Asher who was the star of the show, and he was a fabulous subject to capture indeed!!! I was captivated by his eyes, and he had no shortage of smiles for me. I loved every moment I spent with him and his family.

Justice is officially two months old. He has been going through a growth spurt not only physically as you may notice, but also some milestones are being met. He is now over 10.5 lbs and a solid little guy. Justice is grasping easily these days, holding his head steady, loves to stand up, is cooing in response to talking to him and he just discovered his hands (so fun to watch him).

This bright eyed little boy has very bold preferences and is able to clearly communicate them.  Unfortunately, one preference is the bottle, and I have been unable to breastfeed him the past few weeks as he has been on a nursing strike. I am trying hard and really working with our little man to get him to feed the way God intended again, I am hopeful, but it has been frustrating and heartbreaking. The challenges of motherhood are many, makes me appreciate so much more what other new moms may be experiencing.

Meet Warren, a very busy boy who I can see has the heart of all his family. He is about to turn two, but that is not the only reason that number is significant in his life at the moment. With his birthday is also the news that he will become a big brother to not one but TWO little boys soon! A double set of congratulations to Warren and his family!!!!

Dad, Justice and I took a last minute opportunity to get out of the house and have an adventure for a couple of days in Carlsbad, on the beautiful Southern California coast. But we brought the Fresno heat with us and the temps were sweltering…  I love the ocean and was delighted to introduce baby Justice to its majesty.  He was bright eyed and curious the entire time we were there, taking in all the sights, smells and feelings he could, never fussing for a moment! We were lucky enough to watch a beautiful sunset while there, everyone on the beach stopped to watch and someone even played the trumpet as the final sliver of sun dipped below the horizon. Unforgettable moments for sure.  Afterwards he slept for hours, probably processing all the new experiences. We were also able to get in a few family shots, the first since baby was born 8 weeks ago, a real gift.

Have I said how much I love Justice’s eyes? They seem to be getting bluer and bluer, making mommy excited about the possibility of having a blue eyed boy.  His personality is also worth a mention these days. When he is not fussy, we get to see his sweet and very curious side. He smiles at the sound of his name and sometimes it seems like he is trying to talk to us.  Justice is always looking around and intently observing his surroundings. He is also as strong as can be. Both daddy and I are amazed on how long he can hold his head steady and support his weight on his legs. He is no longer a “newborn”, changes are a happening!!!

Lisa - So happy to get an update on this little guy every week being that my busy life doesn’t allow for as frequent visits as I’d like. Growing beautifully Justice!

Weeks 5 and 6 have been a rough ones, I am not going to lie. While all I chose to capture in the moment were pleasant expressions below, it’s not always smiles and giggles.  Dad was leaning on the bed trying to help Justice relieve some gas pains.  It took so long to calm him that we lost much of the natural light I planned on using to do his photos in our room. Not a whole lot was accomplished this week because of fussy baby. We are still not sure of what is causing all his distress, but we are trying everything we can think of to help him in the meantime.

Lisa - Glad I got to visit you and your little peanut yesterday. He is adorably sweet. Also, nice to catch up a bit since our busy lives have taken up most of our time to do so.

Week 5 was a BIG one for baby Justice!  He joined us on his longest road trip thus far, to UC Berkeley to drop off my niece Anne who just started university. While there we had a chance to visit some long time friends of mine who also were blessed with a new addition to their family, 2 month old Pablo.  The moment I first held him I fell in love with him as he melted into my arms, he is such a delight.  The boys are a little over a month apart, and I hope this is the beginning of a long time friendship between them.  It is so great seeing my dear friends as parents and I feel fortunate to be able to go on this journey alongside of them.
